WHO Civil Society Commission: Steering Committee

The Steering Committee provides strategic leadership and oversight for the WHO Civil Society Commission. 

Working closely with members and the WHO Secretariat, the Steering Committee helps guide the Commission's priorities, supports implementation of its workplan and promotes meaningful engagement between WHO and civil society.

The Steering Committee reflects the diversity of the Commission's membership and includes representatives from all six WHO regions. Members serve in their personal capacity while bringing perspectives and experience from civil society organizations working at global, regional, national and local levels.

Role of the Steering Committee

The Steering Committee:

  • provides strategic direction for the Commission;
  • helps identify priorities and opportunities for engagement;
  • supports implementation of the Commission's workplan;
  • promotes communication and collaboration across the Commission; and
  • helps strengthen accountability, inclusiveness and transparency.

The current Steering Committee was selected through an open nomination process and serves a two-year term. Members are nominated by Commission organizations and selected to reflect a diversity of regions, perspectives and experiences.

  • a recent CV;
  • a short letter of interest indicating your potential contributions to the Steering Committee by using examples of your interests and achievements;
  • a letter from the head of your organization putting forward your candidacy for the Steering Committee of the WHO Civil Society Commission; and
  • a short video of yourself (3 minutes) introducing yourself and your vision for the WHO Civil Society Commission (in English).
